Doctors of Chiropractic are experts in spinal care. Chiropractors also have a keen interest in wellness and helping their patients live a healthier lifestyle.
Australian Chiropractors study at university for a minimum of five years, full time. The training includes anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic sciences, as well as Chiropractic studies. This comprehensive knowledge means they are experts in knowing when a person will benefit from Chiropractic care, and when referral to another health professional is required. Chiropractors are fully licensed health professionals who are governed by registration boards in every state of Australia.
Chiropractic is the world’s third largest health profession after Medicine and Dentistry. Australians make over 16 million visits to Chiropractors each year for nerve, joint and muscular problems; most commonly back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headache, joint pain, spinal disc conditions, arm and leg pain. If the spine is not functioning well it may cause irritation to the surrounding muscles, soft tissues and nerves. Chiropractic ‘adjustment’ mobilises spinal joints with the aim of improving spinal function. It can be done very gently and comfortably.
What to expect?
Once inside our reception area, you’ll be greeted by a friendly face and offered a comfortable chair. We have a team of lovely front office staff trained in customer service to help you while you are in the clinic.
On arrival you’ll be given some paperwork to complete so that we can find out a little bit about you, what brings you into the clinic, what you might be expecting from your care and a little about your medical history.
If you would like to save time , why not download these forms (below) so that you can fill them out before you come in and bring them with you to your first appointment.
Once it’s time for your consultation, the Chiropractic Assistant will show you to the next available treatment room where one of our practitioners will see you.
Your practitioner will more than likely have some other questions about your current body concern / reason for attending the clinic, so he or she will take a time to discuss these with you. At this point, your chiropractor would continue on further.
To get the full picture, these questions will normally be followed by a thorough physical examination, focussing on and around the area of complaint.
By chatting with you, the Chiropractor will gain a better understanding of what it is that you are going through. They will discuss with you what it is that they have found, how best to treat it (or what the options are), how fast you can expect to see improvement and what you might expect to happen to your body while it is healing. Once the Chiropractor has answered any questions you might have, then it’s time for your first adjustment*.
Sometimes, your Chiropractor may feel that it is necessary to investigate your condition a little further. Occasionally x-rays or other types of imaging may be required, Paddington Chiropractic refers out to a couple of radiology centres who usually bulk bill for these images.
*Although Paddington Chiropractic Clinic generally does offer treatment on the first visit, on some occasions our practitioners reserve the right to wait for further investigation eg. x rays.
